Day 27: Milwaukee, WI to Chicago, IL
I started the day by riding the busy streets of Milwaukee, but did my best to make my way to the waters edge as soon as possible. I was able to find a couple of bike paths, namely the Oak Leaf Trail which was great. That is until there was trail construction and I had to detour, haha.
The rest of the day consisted of a lot of weaving and bobbing and trying to find the best way to Chicago while staying as close to Lake Michigan as possible. I was on quaint, tree-lined streets immediately followed by busy highways. Suddenly, I would be on gravel trails then perfectly smooth meandering bike paths. There was a little of everything today.
The wind was mostly out of the west, which meant I had a pretty consistent and gusty crosswind today. It started off relatively cool, but it was quite hot by the time I finished. It was great getting on Lakeshore Trail – just north of Chicago – and riding that for the final few miles into town.
I would continue writing more, but in all honesty I am quite tired tonight and tomorrow is going to be an early morning. Off to bed and then to South Bend, Indiana tomorrow.
