Day 19: Jamestown, ND to Fargo, ND
Wind Wind Wind.
I got up and got rolling right at sunrise this morning, about 7:15 AM. I was doing my best to beat some of the wind and also beat the hot temperatures. I succeeded in getting a couple of hours of riding in before it got too hot, but it was pretty breezy from the get go and was full-on windy pretty quickly. It was also extremely humid today.
I had 100 miles to get to Fargo today and I had to earn each one of them. I started with a pretty full-on headwind and it gradually transitioned into more of a crosswind throughout today. It was constant 20 mph winds with gusts to 30 mph.
I started getting into a little bit different train crossing by and skirting lots of lakes and ponds and bodies of water. Unfortunately, that meant I saw lots of dead frogs on the road and a number of snakes as well. I did stop to see one 3 foot snake slither away into the grass.
I stopped about 53 miles in at a place called Tower City, North Dakota. I spent a little extra time because I knew it was going to be back to the wind as soon as I got on the road. When I did turn and head south – and straight into the wind – I would be working hard and going about 10 miles an hour.
It was nice to get to Fargo and I want to head out to explore a little more, but I am pretty beat today. We did go downtown and had dinner and drinks at HoDo’s... now I’m just resting and getting ready for another one tomorrow… In Minnesota!
