Day 09: Marion, MT to Whitefish, MT
We woke up this morning in a nice bed-and-breakfast in Marion, MT. I had a shorter ride today so there was no hurry to get out the door super early. Particularly because it was still overcast and looked like it was going to rain again. I actually scheduled a massage at 7:30 a.m. this morning!
The ride started mostly downhill and I had 14 miles until I met with Caroline to ride with her for a while. I had to go through another construction zone, so that was no fun. But otherwise, it was uneventful. We then got on the Great Northern Rail Trail for about 8 miles. The rest of the day was spent going through rolling hills and farmland until I arrived in Whitefish. A shout out to Sarah Lyman for connecting us with her parents who live in Whitefish. We are staying in a very nice place right on Whitefish Lake!
I’m bummed that Caroline will be leaving tomorrow out of Kalispell. But I’m sure she could use a break from taking care of me all day! My mom, Cindy, is going to come in and support me for the next week and a half or so. I’m definitely grateful to her and excited to see her as well.
Tomorrow is another short day. I’ll be biking to West Glacier to set myself up for biking over the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park. The only issue is that I would do that Monday and the weather is not looking good. It is supposed to be rainy and I’m wondering if it could actually be snowing over the pass. I will have to make a decision here pretty soon on whether I go over the pass or if I go south to avoid the elevation.
